“I am thirsty.”

Station 5 - Thirsty

John 19:28-30

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

While on the cross, Jesus experienced dehydration. He cried out, “I am thirsty.” However, the Roman guards didn’t give Him anything satisfying.

Take out the sponge from your activity bag and dip it into the bucket of water. Wring out the water and as you do, remember the sacrifice Jesus made and the pain he endured.

John 4:14 says, “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

What does it mean to have this kind of water? What does Jesus mean when He says that we will “never thirst?”

As you walk to the next station, thank Jesus for the gift of eternal life!
